MAPLEWOOD, N.J. – Award-winning musician STEPHANE WREMBEL in association with The Woodland and The Town Hall presents Django A Gogo 2019, a week-long celebration of legendary Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, from Tuesday, April 23rd through Saturday, April 27th.  Wrembel, most known for his Grammy Award®-winning composition “Bistro Fada” from the Academy Award®-winning Woody Allen movie “Midnight In Paris” is one of the preeminent guitarists specialized in the Reinhardt style.

Wrembel is also recognized for releasing a series of critically-acclaimed recordings in tribute to Reinhardt.  The Django Experiment I & The Django Experiment II were released simultaneously in March of 2017 in conjunction with Django A Gogo 2017 at Carnegie HallThe Django Experiment III was released in January of 2018 followed by The Django Experiment IV in January of 2019. On these recordings, Wrembel is accompanied by long-time collaborators Thor Jensen (guitar), Ari Folman Cohen (double bass), Nick Anderson (drums) and Nick Driscoll (saxophone and clarinet). The releases have received high praise from Jazz Times, Downbeat, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, Guitar World, Vintage Guitar, and more. New York Times said, “Perhaps the most creative improviser in Gypsy jazz today, Mr. Wrembel plays the guitar with a rich and colorful lyricism.”

Django A Gogo 2019 includes an intensive 6-day guitar camp and performances at The Woodland and The Town Hall.

The main event for Django A Gogo 2019 at The Town Hall, 123 W. 43rd Street, NYC, on Saturday, April 27th at 8 p.m. will present some of the best performers in the world. This year, Wrembel is bringing to the U.S. a world-class team of French guitarists to join him on stage: Simba Baumgartner (Reinhardt’s great grandson, who will celebrate the show with the release of his debut CD, Les Yeux Noirs), Raphael FaysSerge Krief, David Gastine, Ezeckiel Krief and Lior Krief.  Additional guitarists Josh Kaye, Thor Jensen and additional performers Daisy Castro (violin), David Langlois (washboard/percussion), Ari Folman-Cohen (double bass), and Nick Anderson (drums) will comprise the amazing array of talent on the legendary stage of The Town Hall.  A very special guest performer will be announced soon.  This event is open to patrons of all ages.  Tickets start at $47.00. The shows at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road, Maplewood, N.J., include the following: Wednesday, April 24th with Stephane Wrembel Band: The Django Experiment including Wrembel, Thor Jensen, Nick Anderson, Ari Folman-Cohen, Nick Driscoll and special guests. A journey from the desert to the Gypsy camps of France, patrons will experience a thousand years of music history through Reinhardt’s musical genius; Thursday, April 25th will take patrons on an exploration of Reinhardt’s music with Gypsy guitar genius Simba Baumgartner and violin virtuoso Daisy Castro. Special guests include Folman-Cohen, David Gastine, Josh Kaye, and Scott Kettner; Friday, April 26th features The Krief Brothers, Lior and Ezeckiel, who possess  an extraordinary level of virtuosity–the art of the guitar in its supreme form–with special guests Wrembel, Driscoll, Kaye, Julian Smith, Serge Krief and more.  All shows begin at 8 p.m. These events are open to patrons of all ages.
