FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR NUÇI’S SPACE

ATHENS, GA—The 11th annual Wild Rumpus Parade & Spectacle FLOW*R POW*R will take place in various locations in historic Athens, Georgia, on Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th. This 2 day celebration has grown into a substantial fundraiser and one of the biggest holiday festivals in the Southeast. The weekend includes many free and ticketed special events, including The Monster Mash for children, a kick-off party, a 5 K race and fun run, and much more.  The main event is a free, all-inclusive, family-friendly COSTUME PARADE through the streets of downtown Athens enhanced by street performers and live bands along the parade route.  It culminates with a HUGE dance party adjacent to City Hall followed by the Royal Rumpus Ball at the Georgia Theatre.

Every year’s parade has a theme based on the progression of the astrological signs of the zodiac.  This year’s theme is “FLOW*R POW*R”.  Organizer and parade leader Timi Conley comments, “FLOW*R POW*R is inspired by the 11th Sign of the zodiac, Aquarius, where freedom of the spirit, elevated consciousness, and the Power of Love reign supreme!!  It also plays on the repeated W and R (for Wild Rumpus). What a wonderful exuberance to summon for the parade, where ALL are invited to come from near and farto march, dance and howl at the moon together!  It is a great way to showcase Athens, elevate the spirit of community and raise funds for a good cause.”

The Wild Rumpus & Spectacle is a charitable event channeling profits from fundraising to local non-profit organizations that work for the betterment of the community. This year’s beneficiary is Athens’ beloved artist and musicians’ resource, Nuçi’s Space, an organization whose mission is to prevent suicide. With a focus on musicians, Nuçi’s Space advocates for and helps to alleviate the suffering for those living with a brain illness and fights to end the stigma of mental illness.

This year’s Wild Rumpus Parade & Spectacle is supported by Athens Downtown Development Authority, Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau and The Classic Center Authority for its appeal as a tourist attraction for this legendary arts hub.
