In 1999, seeking a change of scenery, Barnes relocated to Seattle, where he established relationships and worked with an eclectic array of musicians including the jazz guitar virtuoso Bill Frisell, Dave Matthews, Chuck Leavell and more.  Playing with Frisell led Barnes to Wayne Horvitz, who produced Things I Done Wrong, Barnes’ first solo record for Terminus, in 2001. Barnes recorded Dirt on the Angel in 2003 with special guests including pianist Chuck Leavell, guitarist Bill Frisell, violinist Darol Anger and multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell.  The album received rave reviews.
